Mark Schmidt is a Brooklyn-based choreographer, performer and educator who regularly collaborates with artists working in film animation, sound, visual art, fashion and set design. He holds a BA with a concentration in Cultural Studies from the New School for Social Research and MFA in Performance and Choreography from SUNY Brockport. In October 2013, he premiered his first commissioned choreography Por Una Cabeza at Gotham Hall through the generous funding of Heena and Dhan Pai. His solo Macha Me, inspired by the iconic photographer Cindy Sherman, was selected for the 4th Detroit Dance Race in 2013, and in 2012 he was the recipient of a NewSteps space grant to create new work at Chen Dance Center in New York.

As a performer, Schmidt has danced for choreographers: Luis Malvacias, Jeremy Nelson, Erick Montes, Malcolm Low, and Shandoah Goldman. He has also appeared in multiple film and video projects by Danish photographer/director Rie Rasmussen, most recently in 2015. When not performing or creating his own work, he occasionally assists art director Reynaldo Davis Carter. This includes sets for fashion publications Italian Vogue, Vs. Magazine, and Officiel.

Schmidt is certified by the National Strength and Conditioning Association and has a private practice combining, anatomical awareness, movement efficiency and functional strength training. He is currently Curatorial Committee Vice Chair at Dance Parade.
