SUMMARY:Dance Police Rally
DESCRIPTION:We’re having a Zoom to coordinate a Pub Crawl on Friday\, September 22nd at 6pm in the East Village. Interested NYDP members should sign up for the 9/22/23 NYDP event here!\n\n\nBackground: \nThe NYDP (New York Dance Police) was formed in Dance Parade’s inaugural year as a playful protest to the racist 1926 Cabaret Law that restricted dance to licensed venues.  The NYDP squad mimics the “Cabaret Task Force” that in the Guiliani administration methodically fined and shut down nigtlife venues that allowed dancing. Despite the 2017 repeal of the Cabaret Law that restricted dance to licensed venues\, NYC’s Zoning Laws still do not allow dance in any venue under 200 patrons. And venues above a 200 person capacity can exist only in high density commercial and manufacturing districts. \nWe see this as a violation of our 1st Ammendment right of freedom of expression–After all\, dancing is a healthy activity and there are numerous laws already in place to regulate nightlife. \n\n\nAhead of an anticipated hearing at City Hall later this year\, the Dance Police has been asked to roam the city to encourage nightlife establishments to sign on to the cause at legalizedance.org and to have them post their petition at change.org/leagliedance \nWe will get the word out by dawning NDYP shirts\, hats\, whistles and issue these citations in the East Village and potentially other NYC neighborhoods: \n \nFeel free to pass the invite to other friends or former NYDP members! \n\nJoin Zoom Meeting\nhttps://us02web.zoom.us/j/3797731889?pwd=YTZLbWpNN2dlZlhtQ2xaYktqSG1kQT09\nMeeting ID: 379 773 1889\nPasscode: 332211\nOne tap mobile\n+19292056099\,\,3797731889#\,\,\,\,*332211# US (New York)\n+13126266799\,\,3797731889#\,\,\,\,*332211# US (Chicago)Dial by your location\n+1 929 205 6099 US (New York)\n+1 312 626 6799 US (Chicago)\n+1 301 715 8592 US (Washington DC)\n+1 346 248 7799 US (Houston)\n+1 669 900 6833 US (San Jose)\n+1 253 215 8782 US (Tacoma)\nMeeting ID: 379 773 1889\nPasscode: 332211\nFind your local number: https://us02web.zoom.us/u/keAt5NxlMh\nSpread the love
